1. Location

University Hall is straight across the road from the University. In 3 minutes you are on the University campus. There are bus stops on the road outside that take you to the Mall on Riccarton Road and the city centre (20 minutes).

We are the closest university to the ski fields in the Southern Alps (1 hour).

2. Quality Facilities

They have been designed with the specific needs of students in mind and almost all are single rooms. There is a comprehensive online maintenance programme in place to ensure that any problem gets rectified as soon as practicable.

3. Variety Of Choice

There are plenty of types of rooms to choose from with several options of catered rooms. You can even choose the more communal, less expensive option of a twin share room. Over 90% of our residents get their first choice.

4. Fully Furnished Apartments

University Hall rooms have all you need apart from your own bedding. Linen packs are available to purchase at $80 each.

All rooms have large desks, a chair, a pin board, book case and ample wardrobe storage.

5. Fully Catered Rooms

Residents get 21 meals a week included in their fees. So nobody in the hall needs to worry about where their next meal is coming from.

6. Communications

Nobody @ University Hall needs to worry about keeping in touch. Each bedroom has its own phone with a separate extension number. Making phone calls in the Christchurch metropolitan area is free and calling cards or 0800 numbers can be used to call home. All bedrooms also have a high speed data port that you can connect up to the university system.

7. Security

Access to each building is only possible by using our Electronic Swipe card. Each bedroom is fitted with a quality, mortice lock.

There is good lighting around the site and a number of security cameras throughout the Hall greatly assist us in maintaining a secure environment.

One of the greatest assets is the fact there is usually other students about.

8. Value

2010 Weekly residential fees for a fully catered room start at NZ$205.00 for a twin share, with the maximum being NZ$303.00 for a room in Bickerton, Popper, Rolleston, Jean Herbison or Kate Sheppard Buildings.

Remember when comparing prices that our fees cover all living costs such as electricity and phones. There is also no hassle in having to find your own furniture and pots and pans. We also provide three nutritious meals a day and additional amenities such as Sky TV lounges; computer laboratory and library.

9. Flexible Payment System

Payment options

Residents will have the option of three different payment methods for their Agreement with UC Accommodation

1. One full payment paid by Thursday 28th January 2010.

2. Two equal sums paid before the start of each semester. The first payment is due on Thursday 28th January 2010 and the second payment is due on 17th June 2010.

3. Four equal sums paid before the start of each term. The first payment is due on Thursday 28th January 2010, the second is due Thursday 8th April 2010, the third payment is due on 17th June 2010 and the fourth payment is due Thursday 26th August 2010.

10. Quality Dining Options

As you’re in a fully catered Hall, you are free of the hassle and cost of preparing meals, not to mention the time wasted shopping. We have a good range of options at the lunch and dinner sessions and nobody should go hungry. All our chefs are experienced professionals committed to providing high standard meals.

11. Community Living

With over 500 students in residence you should be able to find like-minded people who will end up as your flatting mates in the future, and then life long friends. But the Hall is not for the exclusive use of residents.

Friends and family are welcome as long as they abide by our rules. University life does not finish at the end of the lecture but can continue into the evening and over the weekend.

Life in the Hall is not only conducive to academic study but also will have a very strong social aspect.

12. Residential Assistants

Scattered throughout the Hall are members of the Residential Staff team. The Residential Assistants (RA) are senior students who work with the Hall Director to provide guidance and oversee the general pastoral and social programmes in the Hall. They play many roles and maintain a constant and stabilising presence in the Hall, providing support for their fellow students in personal, social and recreational matters.

13. Full Academic Year Accommodation

No you do not have to empty your room or pay extra for the term holidays. The contracts start a week before University to enable us to conduct a great orientation week, and we give you a week after the final exams to pack up your belongings.

14. The Atmosphere

University Hall is a vibrant place where we try and develop the ethos of a community of emerging scholars. We try and grow a fun and responsible social and community attitude where we respect our residents as young adults and encourage your growth towards independent living. A casual but caring environment prevails.

15. Academic Advantages

The Hall provides an environment that encourages study with regular tutorials in the most popular papers, organised peer support and a special Engineering living area where engineering students and RA staff live and learn together.

There usually appears to be somebody down the corridor taking the same paper and capable of quickly solving any sticky problem.
