RESIDENT ASSISTANTS

The Residential Staff team of 16 is divided into four duty teams headed by a Residential Supervisor. The RA are usually post graduate students who normally have experience as an RA. They all live in the Hall scattered throughout the various buildings.

The team is at the Hall to support the residents and provide opportunities for residents to interact with each other and the broader community. The team are trained in conflict resolution, first aid, basic listening skills, basic fire fighting and a range of other areas relating to running the Hall and assisting residents.

The team works with the Student Executive who have representatives from each key group, to organise a range of community, cultural, social and sporting activities.

There is a more serious side to their role as well, and they play an important part in making sure that the Hall operates smoothly for the benefit of all residents, and that a pleasant environment is maintained for everyone.

If you are having a great time after 10.00pm and making lots of noise, it will usually be the RA who remind you of your community obligations and suggest you quieten down or move to a more suitable location.

They are also there to provide assistance and have gleaned a lot of important “stuff” about the Uni over the years. We hope you develop a good relationship with your RA and you feel comfortable to call in for a chat with them if you are experiencing difficulties and are in need of assistance or just a friendly shoulder to cry on. The team also assists in developing policy and provides advice to Hall management.
